Financial Counselors work in a service center and provide personal and family financial counseling to service members and their families. Financial counseling will be provided to assist with establishing a basic level of financial literacy and good financial behavior and habits, as well as more sophisticated financial planning to assist with advanced financial needs such as investing, estate planning, tax planning, education planning, and other financial matters. Financial Counselors will be sensitive to the specific needs of the military family, and should be able to provide appropriate guidance regarding the Service member’s Civil Relief Act, Public Law 110-289 Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 as well as other pertinent laws and policies.
