Workplace Options President Joins Tyler Clementi Foundation Board

WPO’s Alan King joins the board of national anti-bullying organization

Raleigh, N.C. (February 6, 2014) – Workplace Options is pleased to announce that Alan King, president and chief operating officer, has joined the Tyler Clementi Foundation board of directors.

King is highly regarded as an innovator and visionary by the international business community for his professional accomplishments, and is well known as a champion of social and political progress by the North Carolina LGBT community for his efforts to advance an equal rights agenda.

His experience aligns well with the goal of the Tyler Clementi Foundation, which is to end online and offline bullying in schools, workplaces, and faith communities.

“In 2010, Tyler Clementi’s tragic story caught the attention of millions of people,” King said. “It’s an honor to join an organization devoted preserving Tyler’s legacy and making an incredible impact on the lives of young people facing adversity across the country. This is a deeply personal issue for me, and I’m excited to do whatever I can to help this organization and the Clementi family continue their brilliant work.”

Locally, King helped establish the LGBT Center of Raleigh, the largest community organization of its kind in the state, and Out! Raleigh, one of the Southeast’s largest celebrations of diversity. He is also currently on the board of Equality NC, a statewide organization dedicated to social justice.

“Alan is a phenomenal force of positive change,” said Sean Kosofsky, executive director of the Tyler Clementi Foundation. “He’s an incredibly wise and strategic leader, and we’re looking forward to using his insights, talents, and experience to help us accomplish our goals.”

In 2010, 18-year-old Tyler Clementi’s suicide made national headlines after it became apparent that he suffered as the victim of cyber-bullying. The Tyler Clementi Foundation was established by his family and in his memory shortly thereafter to promote inclusive, respectful environments for LGBT youth and young people of all walks of life.
