In this episode of WPO’s Special Learning Series, host James Callender, Director of Business Solutions ANZ, speaks with Walter Carter, Global Learning Solutions Trainer, about how emotional intelligence can strengthen workplace relationships—minimizing conflict, fostering open communication, and promoting a greater sense of belonging—and how individuals can cultivate it.

In today’s interconnected world of work, effective communication, collaboration, and relationship-building are more important than ever. Championing these aims requires a repertoire of soft skills—empathy, patience, self-awareness, and above all, emotional intelligence.

Emotional intelligence (EQ), defined as the ability to recognize, understand, manage, and influence emotions in oneself and in others, is an essential component of healthy human development, and plays a key role in fostering positive and transformative interactions at work. When leaders and employees alike demonstrate high emotional intelligence, it paves the way for deeper connections, strengthened collaboration, and enhanced creativity and innovation.
