In this episode of WPO’s Special Learning Series, host James Callender, Director of Business Solutions ANZ, is joined by Alex Wittmann, Global Learning Solutions Trainer, to help break down the nature of trauma and provide actionable steps to building resilience and fostering post-traumatic growth.

Trauma is not an outlier to the human experience—it’s a thread woven through it. More than 2 in 3 people will experience a potentially traumatic event in their lifetime (WHO), with varying effects. For many, the internal and external resources will already be there to help them process and move past their experience. But for others, the absence of certain resources will leave them struggling to cope, increasing their risk of PTSD and other complications.

Fortunately, there are steps individuals can take to boost their resilience in the face of trauma.

Key strategies discussed include:

  • Understanding triggers and the mind-body connection
  • Cultivating a strong sense of self
  • Cognitive restructuring
  • Mindfulness techniques
  • Practicing self-care
