Core Employee Assistance Program

Single Session Therapy

  • Mental Health
Counselors engage with callers to resolve their concerns within the initial consultation by providing immediate emotional support supplied in a single conversation

A participant reached out and explained that he recently had a conversation with a family member about the LGBTQ+ community. Since then, he has had thoughts that he could be homosexual. He mentioned that there are members with this sexual orientation in his family, who were very supportive of him. However, his unease came from preconceived notions he had about what a family can look like. He elaborated that if he is homosexual, he will not have a wife and children as he had dreamt of and felt unsettled by the thought.

The clinician actively listened to the participant and allowed him to express his thoughts freely. The clinician validated the participants emotions and provided him with emotional care in the form of Single Session Therapy (SST) that focused on sexuality and gender.

The participant was also given psychoeducation on issues of human sexuality so that he could discuss and address any doubts he has had around the topic since adolescence. The clinician also explained the different types of families around the premises and beliefs about sexual orientation.

By the end of the session, the participant reported that he had gained a new perspective and knowledge about forming a family. The participant appreciated the support he received, and by the end of the session, he reported that he felt calmer and more at ease about his future.
